2020 was our first pageant for neurodiverse children.
Creating awareness on neuro diverse disorders ending stigma and advocating for acceptance and inclusion is one of the main aims of our online pageant Little Mr&Miss Neurodiversity. Have you seen an advert featuring a child living with a disability? Have you seen this children on billboards advertising for companies like their neuro typical peers? Our children are beautiful and talented and can do wonders if given an opportunity. Clothing stores, big companies with variety of products, modelling agencies…We would love to see neuro diverse children advertising for cereals, baby oils, milk , diapers, and so on . That will be the day we can say we have won INCLUSION in society. Our friends here you can help us by tagging these influencers here and sharing our page and post, you never know who will spot a child here and make their dream come true.
Our very first winners, little Mr & Miss Neurodiversity 2020/2021 Brayson and Kerri.
It has never been easy for children with hidden disabilities and their families because as they grew older they faced so much stigma. Sadly there is evidence of ” mercy killing ” of autistic children in Uganda not many years ago. Families with such children are often discriminated against in the community and their interactions with the rest of the community is restricted, for instance, the community would not allow a young man or woman to marry from a family with a ” history of strange illnesses and mental disorders ” . There are still many negative perceptions about disability. Evident stigma and discrimination. Sadly some parents still hide their children from the community due to this harsh judgements.
Our organisation is dedicated to discouraging stigma on disability and advocate for acceptance , accommodation and inclusion of our special needs children in all aspects of life. We bring our children out for the people see and appreciate them as we teach the community how to love our children. They are just different, not less.Given an opportunity and the right support they bloom in their own time and most importantly, they all have a purpose in life, like we all do. There is no shame in giving birth to and raising a child living with a disability. That said, our pageant, little Mr&Miss Neurodiversity, a pageant for neurodiverse children aimed at creating awareness, discouraging stigma and boosting self confidence in our children is around the corner. We are looking forward to having more fun while at it this year. We will start our entry registration from next month-September 2021. Keep it here join and cheer us on. Little miss Neurodiversity 2020/2021 reigned with elegance and grace. This girl is so beautiful and determined and she doesn’t allow cerebral palsy to define her. Neurodiversity is indeed beautiful.
First runner up 2020-21 Trevor
Our Ist runner up little Mr Neurodiversity 2020/2021 Master Trevor with his mother. Trevor’s mum tells us that she first spoke about her sons condition during the contest. Apart from the massive support she got during the pageant, she tells me family and friends have since been very supportive and spoil Trevor with love.
They once organised a surprise birthday party for Trevor with friends of Trevor bringing him a whole three cakes to celebrate his birthday.
See how the society is ready to love our differently abled children when they are informed.
We encourage everyone to speak up, create awareness and normalize talking about disability to end stigma.
